Anticlimactic Snowstorm

So everyone predicted a ton of snow for Colorado the past couple of days – mostly the mountains, but also in northern Colorado and the foothills, and a bit even on the plains. We weren’t sure if they were going to call it and close our office for work, and I was hoping they would (they didn’t). I would have been working from home even if I’d stayed home, so oh well. I found out that things weren’t closed at around 6 a.m., so I got up, showered, and got ready. It really wasn’t too bad driving, mostly wet snow and slushy. The snow kept coming down throughout the day, and was pretty to watch out the office windows, but it was no fun to clear off the car when I was getting ready to leave. It snowed a bunch overnight last night, too, but the sun came out and melted most of it, so I didn’t have to re-shovel the sidewalks after I did them yesterday after work.
Apparently other areas got quite a bit of snow, especially the mountains in general (we’re talking feet of snow, apparently), so it wasn’t entirely a false alarm, but at our elevation it was closer to rain, and again, very slushy. March is when we get a lot of our snow, so who knows, more may be in the future, but we’ll see. I am not ready to let go of winter yet, and hope we have a nice calm spring before it yields to blazing Summer.
I had an incredibly busy week (that is most of the weeks these days) but it’s OK. It will be a nice calm weekend; we are intentionally not doing very much, besides a few errands here and there. I have a lot of Latin to work on, too, so that is another reason (busy week, again, so I didn’t have a chance to get as much done as normal). I don’t know that I mentioned it before, but we got a new mattress and boxspring, and I would like to recycle the old ones. Unfortunately, the old ones don’t fit in the car, so I had to look into how to get rid of them. The city will pick them up with our trash for an extra fee, but I have to set it up. At my spouse’s suggestion, I called them during lunch today, and they’re going to pick the mattress and boxspring up on Monday with the regular trash pickup. Super easy! I am really happy with Public Works and trash in general, so that was great. Since the mattress and boxspring have been taking up a lot of space in our already-crowded garage, I’ve had to open the garage door, then go outside and around to drop off trash/recycling lately, which has been a bit of a pain. I will be happy to have the space back, and we need to keep working on de-cluttering the garage.
Makes me think, too. I was talking to one of my colleagues yesterday about house stuff, and he said they bought their house 20 years ago, thinking it would be a starter house, and they’re still there. I am hoping we are the same, because I really love our place and don’t want to move if we don’t have to. It’s plenty big for just us and the cats, and we have a nice front- and backyard. I like our little kosmos and it’s definitely a big step up from the apartment we had. Very grateful my parents could help us get into the house; we wouldn’t’ve been able to do it otherwise, or at least not for many years…
Since we’re hurtling towards spring, that means lawnmowing will have to start again. I don’t ever water the lawn; the place came with built-in sprinklers but I do not want to waste the water with them, like, at all. I had the system “blown out” our first winter here so it wouldn’t freeze, and just never turned it on again. But the lawn grew regardless, likely due to snow &c., and that’s fine, I’ll mow as needed and rake &c. (we have a large ash tree in the backyard which is quite nice, but it drops lots of leaves!).
It’s St. Patrick’s Day on Sunday and a lot of places/people are starting festivities tonight, or going throughout the weekend, since Sunday is an inopportune day to get trashed, y’know? I have a bunch of Guinness, most of it sitting out in the kitchen, and a few cans in the fridge, so that’ll be nice. I’m about 1/16 Irish (IIRC my great-grandma was half-Irish) so there’s a little bit there. But it seems like mostly an excuse to get drunk, which is fine. My spouse would like to make shepherd’s pie, and is cool using TVP so it’s veg, so that will be nice; we need to look around and procure some TVP, which has been hard to find these days, unfortunately (we always used to buy the Red Mill stuff at Big Lots, but they’ve all gone out).
I should call my mom tonight. I didn’t talk to her last weekend and I usually call her on Fridays. I think I’ll call her and say hi and catch up a bit. Talk to y’all later, thanks for reading <3
