Small Slide Show

I was thinking about writing this while I was in the shower earlier, and was reminded of “Slide Show” parts 1 & 2 on the Final Fantasy VIII OSV. I haven’t written in a little while, aside from my little treatise on the encrypted backup procedure recently. It’s been kind of a blurry few weeks honestly, with a lot going on.
A couple of weeks ago, we went to a pumpkin patch in town and bought pumpkins for carving; we bought four, but have only carved two. I’m not sure if we’re going to carve the other two unfortunately. I just haven’t had the desire to deal with it. About a week and a half ago, we got together with our friends and carved pumpkins; I did a “vampire Mickey” and my spouse did a Goomba! They turned out really well. Sadly, they didn’t last that long on the front porch; the temps were up and down, which I think didn’t help. We had about a week with the before they got moldy and gross, and on Sunday we took them to the recycling center and dropped them off. But it was nice while it lasted.
Work has been busy as always, but that’s OK, it is never boring! I’m looking forward to the waning of the year, where holidays are more plentiful, and everything becomes darker and colder and we can enjoy blankets and hot tea and other cozy things.
We did a good job of cleaning out the garage, and it’s definitely coming along. I would like to get a new car ideally before the end of the year, but we’re giving it a little time before we start seriously looking again. A lot of uncertainty around these parts in the next week or so. I’d like to get the garage much more cleaned out so a car can fit in there, but we’ll get there.
I have a busy day for Halloween. Yearly physical, monthly check-in with my supervisor, and I suspect we will have a “lockdown” drill when I’m in-office; there have been drills at other buildings most of the past couple of the weeks, and it has to be our turn eventually. I really thought I’d be done with that sort of nonsense when I stopped working at the school, but oh well, it is what it is. However, once I’m home after that, we plan on sitting outside on chairs and handing out candy. I don’t know who all will come by; the first year we lived here, we had one small group come by, and last year, we were out of town, so I don’t know what to expect. But it’s OK. It’ll be nice to enjoy the night and talk and spread some sort of cheer.
I’ve not played as many games lately as I would like. When I have been gaming, though, I’ve been playing a lot of UFO 50, an “unearthed” collection of 50 “retro” games for a previously-unknown console, the LX. It is a fascinating collection and tons of fun, and totally nails the retro vibes; it feels like I’m playing mirror-world NES and SNES games! Highly recommend it if you’re a fan of retro games, or if you like the retro aesthetic at least. I am still floored that they managed to put together a collection of 50 fully fleshed-out games, no half measures here. It’s quite an achievement. I have other Steam games that I need to get back to, like Chicory, Wylde Flowers, Stardew Valley, and Outer Wilds. But then there’s also all the emulated stuff. I swear, gaming these days leaves one nonplussed with the sheer amount of stuff out there!
I’ve also bought some great Bandcamp stuff lately. I really need to update the My Favorite Music post; maybe I will look at that next if I have some time tonight. There is so much to keep track of and it’s hard to put it all into words. I’m also very caught up on my podcasts lately, so I’ve been listening to more randomized music while working lately. I’ve enjoyed Navidrome a lot better as a Subsonic server than NextCloud Music, especially since it allows transcoding on the fly! That is a must, especially if mobile streaming.
Oh! We did a ghost tour downtown at our local theatre/performing arts centre. That was really awesome. We had dinner and drinks beforehand, which were delicious, and had a couple of extra drinks while killing time before the tour. It was short and sweet, but full of interesting history, and we found out that there are creepy tunnels beneath the theatre, and parts of the city! I love creepy tunnels! The tour was totally worth it and a great way to spend part of the evening. We made a nice date night out of it.
anyways that’s about it, not a ton has been going on lately, or at least nothing super interesting otherwise. I’m looking forward to some time off in the near future. And impending cold and snow! Thanks for reading, as always, friends <3
