Cithara
I may have mentioned this elsewhere, but in the last month I bought myself a new electric guitar. When I was in high school, I took guitar lessons for a few months, and my parents very kindly got me a lovely emerald-green Squier Stratocaster electric guitar. I think my mom still has it back in Oregon. I hope she's getting some use out of it. I inherited an old electric guitar from my late cousin-in-law. I restrung it and wanted to get it working again. I recently got a "micro" amp (it's so small it even has a belt loop!), got an adaptor for it, and instrument cables. The old guitar didn't work, though; I think its electrical components are shot. So I sold the electric guitar to a used music store and got some equipment there (a longer instrument cable; guitar stand; guitar strap). The new guitar I got is an Epiphone Tribute, cherry, and it's really nice. My friend suggested it to me; she is well-versed in guitars and I wholeheartedly trust her recommendations. It's lovely.
I haven't set aside a lot of time to mess about with the guitar, though. I tuned it not too long ago (I ordered a digital tuner with the guitar, along with a gig bag), but haven't really done much else. I need to test out the new cable with the amp, but it should be fine. My friend also recommended Justin Guitar's site for online guitar lessons. I fired it up for the first time tonight, and he seems very knowledgeable, and the videos are easy to follow. I literally have not done anything with a guitar in 20+ years, though, so this is all very, very new to me, and it'll take some time. I think taking up guitar again will hopefully help break my bad habit of biting my nails, too. No nails/weird fingers, bad guitar playing. I need proper calluses for (and from) pushing down the strings. So that's a goal.
It'd be fun to play a variety of songs. I have no idea what I'd like to play. I love the idea of FFVII's "Interrupted by Fireworks." I used to know Live's "Lightning Crashes," and Radiohead's "Street Spirit." Oh, Live's "Turn My Head," too. I love that song. So it'd be cool to relearn some of that stuff for sure. It would be a fun hobby to take up again. I love listening to music, and loved playing it when I did, but a lot of other things have taken precedence. It would be nice to set aside some time for this. Buying the guitar was one guarantee of that. It's an investment and I don't want to squander it. And I love that there are guitar tabs littered all over the internet, for whatever one wants to play. And I think that's wonderful, especially since some people are extremely good at transcription, and kindly shared their work with others.
I'll probably post more about this, of course, as I keep working on things. For now I'm going to work through the Justin Guitar lessons and we'll see how it all goes. I'm floored that such a resource is available for free, and happy about that for sure. If y'all have any guitar tips, I'm all ears, too. Thanks for reading, friends <3
